In short

A 1:43 scale die-cast metal model by IXO Models replicating the TWR-run Jaguar XJR-9 No. 2 that ended a 31-year drought for Jaguar at Le Mans in 1988, wearing the Silk Cut white and purple livery.

The 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans delivered one of the most consequential results in British motorsport: chassis XJR-9LM No. 2, entered by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, crossed the line first to give Jaguar its first overall Le Mans victory since 1957 — a gap of 31 years. IXO Models reproduces that moment in 1:43 die-cast metal, capturing the Silk Cut livery and race number.

Tony Southgate's Group C Weapon

The XJR-9 was conceived by Tom Walkinshaw Racing specifically for the Group C category, debuting in 1988. Its carbon-fibre and aluminium honeycomb monocoque was the work of designer Tony Southgate, while propulsion came from a naturally aspirated Jaguar V12. That combination of structural rigidity and high-displacement power made the XJR-9 competitive against the turbocharged machinery it faced in period endurance racing.

394 Laps, Three Drivers, Thirty-One Years Resolved

No. 2 was assigned to Jan Lammers, Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace. The trio completed 394 laps to take the outright win. Wallace was making his Le Mans debut — a statistically rare achievement for any debutant. Dumfries, better known as John Colum Crichton-Stuart, 7th Marquess of Bute, had previously raced for Lotus in the 1986 Formula One season before committing to sportscar racing. The Silk Cut livery — white with purple accents — was shaped in part by UK tobacco advertising restrictions that required abstract brand imagery, giving rise to one of the most recognised colour schemes in endurance racing history.
