In short

A 1:18 scale model of the Ferrari 250 LM Chassis 6105 as supplied to American privateer Ron Fry in 1964, rendered in Rosso Corsa by CMC using die-cast metal with separately assembled components.

The Ferrari 250 LM occupies a singular place in endurance racing history: 32 examples were built between 1963 and 1966, each one carrying the mid-mounted Colombo-derived V12 inside a closed coupé body styled by Pininfarina. Chassis 6105, constructed in 1964, was one of several 250 LMs that crossed the Atlantic to compete in the hands of American privateers. CMC has captured it in the exact specification in which it left Maranello — unadorned Rosso Corsa, no race number — as a 1:18 scale model built to the die-cast standard the German manufacturer has built its reputation on.

A Mid-Engined V12 That Ferrari Could Never Homologate

Ferrari developed the 250 LM directly from the 250 P sports-racing prototype, retaining the mid-mounted 3.0-litre V12 — displacing 2953 cc and producing around 320 hp — but clothing it in a closed coupé body intended to satisfy FIA GT homologation requirements. The FIA refused to recognise it as a GT car, so the 250 LM raced throughout its career as a prototype. Of the 32 built, many were sold through Luigi Chinetti's NART organisation to American customers eager for a front-running machine in North American road racing.

Chassis 6105 and the American Privateer Scene

Chassis 6105 was delivered in 1964 to Ron Fry, an American privateer who campaigned the car in North American events that season. The car is presented without a race number, representing its as-delivered condition — a snapshot of how Ferrari's customer racing programme reached the United States market in the mid-1960s. The broader significance of the model is underlined by the fact that a sister car, Chassis 5893, entered by NART and driven by Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1965 — the last outright Ferrari victory at La Sarthe to date.

CMC's 1:18 Die-Cast — Materials and Construction

CMC (Classic Model Cars) produces this 1:18 scale model in die-cast metal, supplemented by a range of separately assembled components including photo-etched and wire parts that characterise the German manufacturer's approach. The result is a display-grade replica rather than a toy: panel fit, surface finish and mechanical detailing are consistent with CMC's established position in the upper tier of collector-market die-cast. The Rosso Corsa livery is reproduced without race numbers, faithful to the privateer-delivery specification of Chassis 6105.
