In short

Car No. 2 inherited victory on the final lap of Le Mans 2016 when the leading Toyota stopped with a mechanical failure. IXO Models captures that result in a 1:18 scale model die-cast, measuring approximately 26 cm in length.

The 84th 24 Hours of Le Mans, run on 18–19 June 2016 at the Circuit de la Sarthe, gave Porsche an 18th overall victory that nobody in the grandstands expected with six minutes still on the clock. IXO Models has documented that moment in a 1:18 scale model die-cast of car No. 2, complete with the unified black-and-white livery that both factory 919s wore for the first time that year. The model pairs naturally with IXO's companion piece representing the No. 1 sister car from the same race.

A 900 hp Hybrid Built Around One Rule Book

The 2016-specification Porsche 919 Hybrid used a 2.0-litre single-turbocharged 90° V4 producing approximately 500 hp, mid-mounted as a load-bearing chassis member in a carbon-fibre and aluminium honeycomb monocoque. Two energy-recovery systems — a front-axle braking motor generator and an exhaust-heat recuperator — contributed roughly 400 hp to the front axle via a lithium-ion battery, bringing combined system output beyond 900 hp. For 2016, revised WEC fuel-flow regulations trimmed ICE output by around 8 percent versus 2015 and reduced the fuel tank from 68.5 litres to 62.5 litres, while Porsche prepared three distinct aerodynamic packages — the maximum permitted — to cover every circuit on the calendar. Kerb weight stood at 875 kg before driver and fuel.

Pole Position, 384 Laps and a Last-Lap Drama

Neel Jani put car No. 2 on pole for the second consecutive year, and heavy rainfall forced the first safety car start in Le Mans history. The race unfolded over 384 laps and 5,233.54 km across 24 hours and 38 seconds. With six minutes remaining, Toyota No. 5 led by 70 seconds, but Kazuki Nakajima's car stopped after a turbocharger intercooler-connector failure on the final lap; Jani took the flag. It was the first Le Mans win for both Jani and Marc Lieb, and the second for Romain Dumas. The result, combined with the double-points structure, lifted Dumas, Jani and Lieb 39 points clear in the FIA WEC Drivers' Championship.

IXO Models: Die-Cast at 1:18

This 1:18 scale model is produced by IXO Models in die-cast metal, replicating car No. 2 in the unified 2016 livery — black and white with red accents — that replaced the three individual single-colour schemes Porsche had used across its factory entries in 2015. The livery also carried the 'Porsche Intelligent Performance' motto across the bodywork. IXO also catalogues the companion No. 1 car (Bernhard, Hartley, Webber) from the same race, the 2017 Le Mans winner No. 2, and the 919 Hybrid Evo that set the Nürburgring Nordschleife record in 2018.

In the Display Cabinet

At a computed length of 26.0 cm — derived from the real car's 4,650 mm divided by 18 — the model demands a shelf depth of at least 15 cm and horizontal clearance of roughly 26 cm. It sits naturally alongside the IXO No. 1 sister car from Le Mans 2016 to recreate both factory entries side by side. Collectors building a three-peat narrative can extend the display with IXO's 2017 Le Mans winner and the 2018 Tribute Tour Evo, all in the same 1:18 format and consistent die-cast finish.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the 1:18 scale model?

The Porsche 919 Hybrid measures 4,650 mm in real life. Divided by 18, the model comes out at approximately 26.0 cm in length. Allow at least 26 cm of horizontal shelf space and around 15 cm of depth to display it properly.

Does the model have opening parts?

Opening features are not specified for this IXO die-cast release. As with most closed-body sports prototype models in this format, detail is concentrated on the exterior surfaces: the aerodynamic bodywork, the unified black-and-white livery with red accents, and the race number 2 graphics.

Who drove car No. 2 at Le Mans 2016 and what was the result?

Romain Dumas (France), Neel Jani (Switzerland) and Marc Lieb (Germany) shared the car. They completed 384 laps covering 5,233.54 km to take the overall win — Porsche's 18th Le Mans victory overall. It was the first Le Mans win for both Jani and Lieb.

Is there a companion model for the sister car from the same race?

Yes. IXO Models also produces the No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid driven by Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber at the same 2016 Le Mans race, in the same 1:18 die-cast format, making a natural pair display.
