Fabrizio Tabaton and co-driver Luciano Tedeschini dominated from the opening stage, their turbo four-cylinder and viscous-coupling 4WD clawing for grip on Monte Rest’s snow-dusted tarmac.
The pair’s blistering pace on the descent to Barcis shattered factory opposition and clinched overall victory, a keystone on Tabaton’s route to the 1987 Italian Rally title.
Piancavallo also served notice to the world that the Delta platform—still in its first season—was destined for Group A supremacy.
