In short

A 1:18 scale model of Ferrari's 3-litre V12 challenger as driven by Mike Parkes on the original, unmodified Nürburgring Nordschleife in August 1966. Resin construction, limited edition, supplied with driver figure and display case.

Tecnomodel's Mythos Collection brings the Ferrari 312 F1-66 to 1:18 scale in a four-variant series covering the 1966 season. This fourth variant — race number 10, rosso corsa, no sponsor markings — captures the car exactly as Scuderia Ferrari SpA SEFAC entered it at the Nürburgring on 7 August 1966. The Parkes edition was among the first of the quartet to sell out to pre-orders, a reliable indicator of where collector interest was concentrated.

Ferrari's First 3-Litre V12 Formula One Machine

The Ferrari 312 F1-66 was Mauro Forghieri's response to the new 3-litre formula introduced for 1966. Its Type 218 V12 displaced 2,989 cc (77.0 × 53.5 mm bore/stroke), breathed through Lucas fuel injection and produced 360 bhp at 10,000 rpm — 120 bhp per litre. The engine was derived directly from the Ferrari 275 P2 endurance prototype, reduced to 3,000 cc and installed mid-car in a Type 589 semi-monocoque chassis of aluminium panels riveted to a tubular steel structure. The wheelbase measured 2,400 mm, overall length 3,830 mm. Only two chassis were built for the 1966 season.

Mike Parkes, Race Number 10, and the Last Unmodified Nordschleife GP

Parkes was a factory Ferrari engineer-turned-racing driver, promoted to the F1 squad mid-season after John Surtees's departure to Cooper-Maserati. At 6 ft 4 in, he presented the team with genuine packaging challenges — the chassis was modified specifically to accommodate his frame. Qualifying 7th with a lap of 8:21.7, he was 5.2 seconds off pole-sitter Jim Clark. The race ended on lap 9 of 15 with an accident. Historically, this was the final Formula One Grand Prix run on the original Nordschleife layout before the Hohenrain chicane was installed. Ferrari entered three cars that day: Bandini (#9), Parkes (#10) and Scarfiotti (#11, Ferrari 246).

Tecnomodel Mythos Collection: Resin at 1:18 Scale

Tecnomodel produces this model in resin under its Mythos Collection banner, which the brand reserves for historically significant single-seaters rendered in 1:18. As a resin model, the body is a sealed, one-piece construction; detail is concentrated on the exterior surfaces — the uncluttered 1966-specification bodywork, inboard rear brake geometry and the period-correct rosso corsa finish with no sponsor decals. The model ships with a driver figure scaled to the car and a display case. It is a limited edition; no specific run number is published by Tecnomodel.

Placing the Model in a Collection

At 3,830 mm divided by 18, the Ferrari 312 F1-66 scales to approximately 21.5 cm in length — compact enough for a standard single-seater shelf but distinctive in its open-wheel 1960s proportions. The three companion pieces in Tecnomodel's 1966 series — the Scarfiotti Italian GP winner, the Bandini Nürburgring entry and the Surtees Monaco car — form a coherent four-model set documenting Ferrari's entire 1966 campaign. The model also pairs naturally with 1:18 representations of the 1966 Nürburgring field, including the Brabham BT20-Repco that Jack Brabham drove to victory that afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

How big is the 1:18 scale model?

The Ferrari 312 F1-66 measured 3,830 mm in real life. Divided by 18, the model comes to approximately 21.5 cm in length. That is a standard footprint for a 1960s open-wheel car — shorter than a modern Formula One car with its extended front wing, so a 25 cm shelf depth is comfortable.

Does the model have opening parts?

No. This is a resin model with a sealed, one-piece body — no opening panels or removable bodywork. The detail is concentrated on the exterior: the 1966-specification bodywork surfaces, period rosso corsa livery, race number 10 and the inboard rear brake configuration visible through the wheel arches.

What is included with the model?

Tecnomodel supplies a scaled driver figure representing Mike Parkes and a display case (vetrina). Both are confirmed as standard inclusions for this variant.

Where does the Ferrari 312 F1-66 fit in Ferrari's racing history?

The 312 F1-66 was Ferrari's first car built specifically for the 3-litre Formula One regulations introduced in 1966. Its V12 engine was derived from the 275 P2 sportscar prototype, making it a direct link between Ferrari's endurance and Grand Prix programmes of the mid-1960s. Only two chassis were constructed for the 1966 season, and the designation '312' — 3-litre, 12 cylinders — remained in use through 1969.
