The Porsche 917/20 was built as a single development prototype — chassis 917/20-001 — combining the narrow nose of the 917 Langheck with the broad body of the 917/10 Can-Am car. Its aerodynamic package was developed in collaboration with the SERA bureau. Only one was ever constructed, and it ran just once in competition.

## The Only 917/20 Ever Built

Porsche's engineering brief for the 917/20 was straightforward: test whether the wide-body concept borrowed from the Can-Am programme could reduce aerodynamic drag at Le Mans without sacrificing downforce. The result was a car significantly wider than a standard 917K, with a profile unlike anything else in the 1971 entry list. It remained a one-off; no second chassis was ever commissioned.
