# Lancia Delta Integrale 16V Martini No. 4 Alessandro Fiorio Luigi Pirollo Rally Safari 1990 Night Version IXO Models 1:43

> The Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V Martini Racing No. 4 of Alessandro Fiorio and Luigi Pirollo at the 1990 Safari Rally, in night configuration. A 1:43 die-cast model by Ixo Models, back in stock to remember a driver who passed away in August 2026.

Some drivers are remembered for the titles they won, others for the way they drove. Alessandro "Alex" Fiorio belongs to both groups. This 1:43 replica by Ixo Models takes him back to Africa, to one of the toughest events he ever tackled with the official Martini Lancia team.

## Alex Fiorio, a Lancia Era Protagonist

Born in Turin on 10 March 1965, son of Lancia team manager Cesare Fiorio, Alex passed away on 17 August 2026, aged 61. He made his World Rally Championship debut in 1986 with Jolly Club. In 1987, at the wheel of a Group N Lancia Delta HF 4WD, he won the first FIA Group N Cup, today's Production World Rally Championship. In 1988 he finished third in the drivers' world championship and in 1989 he was runner-up with 65 points, behind Miki Biasion and ahead of Juha Kankkunen. That season brought second places in Argentina and Sanremo and third places in Portugal and on the Acropolis, always with Luigi "Gigi" Pirollo in the co-driver's seat.

## The 1990 Safari Rally

The 38th Safari Rally ran in Kenya from 11 to 16 April 1990. Martini Lancia entered three Delta HF Integrale 16V prepared by Abarth: No. 2 for Biasion and Siviero, No. 5 for Kankkunen and Piironen and No. 4, registered TO 54911N, for Fiorio and Pirollo. A team chase car driven by Dario Cerrato followed the route as a mobile workshop. Fiorio and Pirollo retired halfway through the event. Alex did not go home: he took over the chase car from Cerrato and completed the route in support of his team-mates. Björn Waldegård won with the Toyota Celica GT-Four and Kankkunen brought his Delta home in second place.

## After the Safari

A few months later Fiorio and Pirollo finished third at Rally Australia with the Delta 16V, his last world championship podium. Alex went on to race for Astra, won the Cyprus Rally in the European championship and in 2002 took the production class at Rally Finland with Ralliart Italia. His WRC career counts 51 starts and 10 podiums.

## The Ixo Models 1:43 Replica

The Ixo Models replica in 1:43 scale is made of die-cast metal. It reproduces the Delta in the white, blue and red Martini Racing livery with the Safari Rally Kenya decals, race number 4 and the crew names. The night configuration is shown by the auxiliary lights on the front, alongside the front protection bar, the mud flaps and the TO 54911N registration. The model sits on a black display base with a plate showing car, crew and event.

## In the Collection

A model for those who collect the Lancia Group A era or the great African rallies, and for those who want to remember Alex Fiorio. It pairs naturally with the other Martini Lancia Deltas of the 1990 season.
